South Bend Team Campuses

35000 students attend college in the South Bend Metro area on more than 7 campuses; The University of Notre Dame, Bethel College, IU South Bend, IVY Tech, Holy Cross, Saint Mary’s, and Southwestern Michigan College. These campuses are unique in the fact that they are either private colleges or non-traditional or commuter campuses. Impact Campus Ministries – South Bend launched ministry to these campuses in the summer of 2009 with a Prayer Journey that energized local churches to see the vision for ministry to these campuses. In fact seeking God has marked the entire journey.

In just a short amount of time prayer groups, Bible study’s and community gatherings are having an Impact on several of these campuses. During our first year 15 students began meeting for study and prayer in the home of Lowell and Katie Kosak. The question that we constantly asked was, “What is God doing on your campus?” This core group of students has been energized to begin meeting on their campuses. We also added two more staff to our ministry; Tom (now Team Leader) and Jill Neyhart, and Sarah Koutz.

In the fall of 2010, Bethel College, a private Christian college opened up its doors for us to begin meeting with students from all of the local campuses. At our first meeting, we had 20 students attend and it became very clear that we were going to need another space to meet.  Later that fall we became an official student organization at IU South Bend and began an outreach group in the “Grill” on that campus.  More than 15 students started attending this lunch time Bible Study. In January of 2011 a very unique opportunity became available to us to meet with students at Holy Cross College, a private Catholic institution. This Bible study is student lead and met with 5 students that semester.

In the fall of 2011, students have been energized to lead prayer groups and walks at Notre Dame, Saint Mary’s College, Bethel College and IU South Bend. Bethel College continues to be our largest group with upwards of 35 students from all campuses attending each Thursday night in the “Acorn”. We are excited also to begin our most recent campus group at Southwestern Michigan College in Dowagiac, MI.
